I strive to make family photo sessions enjoyable for the whole family. I want kids (and dads!) to leave feeling like they had a good time, while mom feels like her family was photographed beautifully and authentically.
What Kind of Photographer are You?
I am a natural light, lifestyle photographer. My work can be described as natural, fun, light and authentic. I became a photographer to capture the small, everyday moments and milestones of life and your gallery will reflect that. I am an all inclusive photographer because I don’t want you to be forced to choose just five photos. I am not after that one “perfect shot” of everyone smiling at the camera. I provide a generous gallery showing genuine connections, personality and the spirit of your family as you are right now. In the end, I want you to look at your gallery of images and truly see yourself, to say, “this is my family, documented beautifully.” My hope is that you will want to display your photos as artwork, because that’s what they are – art.
What Happens Once I Book a Session?
Once you have booked a session with me, we will start discussing the perfect location. I offer suggestions based on favorite spots that both show off the beauty of the pacific northwest while offering a perfect backdrop for family photos. I select locations that have beautiful light during the time of day your family needs your session, yet offers something for your family to do together - whether that is playing, exploring, throwing rocks, twirling in fields, or building forts in the woods.
I am also here to help you choose the right thing to wear. I guide you through the process, as much or as little as you'd like. Often clients will text me a photo of everyone's outfits laid out. While I want you to be YOU, I know you're making an investment and what you wear matters. I help ensure your photos are timeless while staying true to you.
What Happens if it Rains?
I totally get it. You have made an investment in family photos and you don't want to spend the entire time drenched. I am a photographer in Washington State, flexibility is my middle name (okay, not really, but that's a big secret!). Leading up to your session I'm in contact watching the weather forecast. If things don't look good I offer several options.
1) We do the session in your home. Kids are often comfortable in their own home and this type of session allows for plenty of family details to be captured.
2) We select a location with cover. I have several favorite spots in the area. In fact, it rained during this family session here.
3) We reschedule. I get it. My hair gets pretty big in the rain, I would want to reschedule my family photos too.
What if My Children are Crazy?!
As much as we'd like to believe our children are perfect angels, we know that just isn't the case. Kids will be kids. They are unpredictable and they don't always want their picture taken. However, I have been photographing families and kids for almost 8 years now. I am also a mother to three kids under the age of 6. Trust me when I say, I have seen it all. My biggest piece of advice to parents is that no matter what, they keep loving on their kids, smiling, or even give their child space if needed. Let me be the one to get them to participate. In addition, I'm not in the business of making children perform, pose, and smile just so. I may photograph the pout, but then I will suggest a new game or activity. I have plenty of tricks up my sleeves. Parents have told me time and time again, they can't believe the images I captured amidst all the chaos. Chaos is the story of my life, friend. It is where my photography shines.
When and Where do Newborn Sessions Occur?
Newborn sessions are done within the comfort of your home within the first two weeks after birth.
What Do I Get with My Session?
After we spend all that time together during your session, I create a large gallery for you (approximately 75+ images) of both color and black and white images. If I couldn't narrow all of our time together into 5 images, I don't expect you too. I want you to have every single image. Every session includes a full set of high resolution digital files. You may print them, share them, and use them in that yearly family album you create. I also include a set of 35 hand-picked 4x6 prints because I want you to have something tangible while allowing you to see the value in holding a picture in your hand. Your private, password protected gallery is sent to you so that you can download your images from the comfort of your own home. Each gallery also allows you to order professional, archival quality prints, canvases, and albums should you want me to do the work for you.
What about Mini Sessions?
If you prefer a mini session, I offer the Two-Family Mini Session any time of year. You and a friend split a family session, giving each family a 30-minute session and separate gallery of high resolution digital files. The cost is $350 per family and the sessions must take place back to back on the same day. Grab a friend and contact me for more information or to book your mini session.
What is Your Turnaround Time?
I know you're excited to see your photos. I'm excited for you to see them too! I strive to get galleries sent to families within 2-3 weeks after their session. I also show sneak peeks on Instagram and Facebook within 2-3 days (with family permission).
