This past summer I have been plotting and working on something so fun and exciting for Neyssa Lee Photography (Snoqualmie Photography Workshops)! After spending a great deal of time thinking about what I wanted next for myself, I finally admitted that I wanted to empower women by teaching  them how to use their cameras. Did you know that I had once wanted to be a teacher? I had even gone to school to get my Masters in Teaching, however, I realized the education system wasn't quite right for me. I'm glad that I tried teaching since it helped me stop and think about what really makes me happy. I feel so fortunate to have had Derek, my husband, by my side through this long journey of finding myself and following my passions. He was the one who encouraged me to go after what I had always wanted, to be a photographer. Now that I'm getting to live that dream, I've realized that I want to help other women. In 2011, Neyssa Lee Photography existed, but was very small. I didn't have the confidence in myself or my skills to push the brand or even think I could stay in business through the end of that year. Just after Milo was born, I had the opportunity of meeting Me Ra Koh and Brian as a "model" for the release of her book Your Baby in Pictures on the show New Day. I had an instant connection with her and decided to take her workshop that fall. It changed my life. I met some amazing women, I learned more about my camera and most importantly I gained confidence in myself. Since then I have wanted to pay it forward and help other women feel confident with their camera as they capture the daily lives of their families.

I was so excited when Me Ra Koh was accepting applications to be one of her Certified Workshop Teachers. I have followed Me Ra's career and seen her as my inspiration and my mentor for years now. I couldn't believe the opportunity that was opening up for me,  except, she was only taking on 5 new teachers this year! Well, I was accepted and have been working with her (and her husband and partner in crime, Brian!) this summer getting ready to announce that I will be teaching my own CONFIDENCE workshops starting this fall! Make sure you visit her blog to see her official announcement of the teachers this year. There is a video that you don't want to miss! I'm sure it will have you rolling on the floor with laughter!

Teaching these workshops is about empowering moms with their cameras to capture all of those fleeting moments of their children's lives. While it is still so important to have a professional photographer capture your family once (or twice) a year, there are so many other moments that need to be recorded into history too! I hope to inspire women to become the storyteller for their family, and be proud of what they capture. I want to empower them to capture what is in their creative spirit instead of being limited by the camera's auto-mode.
