A few weeks ago I put out a call in my newsletter that I was looking for a deserving mother, a mom that was "running on empty." I received numerous submissions all women who were deserving. The decision was too hard to make on my own, so I enlisted the help of my workshop graduates to vote on a winner. After you read this story, I think you'll agree that this woman is one deserving mother. I'm just so glad that I could give something to help fill her tank, so to say.

Here's the email I received:

I'm the mom of four boys ages 1,3, 5, and 7. When my youngest was born last year, he was born 9 weeks early after I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and preeclampsia and put on bed rest in the hospital for two weeks. My son was born weighing 2 lbs 11oz. He spent 77 days in the NICU at Overlake. I went almost every day to sit and be with him for 6-10 hours a day, leaving my boys in he care of my mother who came out to help. When I'd get home from the NICU, I'd have to help my oldest with homework, bathe the kids, help with dinner, and give them each a little extra love. During all this, I pumped every 2-3 hours for my son in the NICU (including in the middle of the night).

When my son finally came home, he was on a feeding tube and had to be tube feed every 2-3 hours over the course of 30 minutes, plus he had multiple follow up appointments to go to. At this point my mom had to return home and I was dealing with the four boys on my own while my husband worked. After two months of being home, my son ended up back in the hospital at Seatle Children's with the Rhino virus.

On top of this, he was hardly eating because he was diagnosed a few weeks earlier with some sort of blockage in his airway that was believed to be from scar tissue from being intubated. We were being told that he might need multiple surgeries and possibly a tracheotomy. After a week and a half in the hospital, he was well enough to have exploratory surgery done. By some miracle, they found only a cyst and were able to remove it.

I'd love to have a picture of my youngest and I now that he is healthy and not so frail looking. May 8th would be the one year anniversary of his due date, so it would be nice to have a picture of us at one year corrected.

As you can see, this is a very deserving mother. It was my honor to capture these photos of this precious miracle boy. I'm so glad you took the time to nominate yourself (we moms have to stick up for ourselves!).
