Let's start off the week talking about the must have photo tips book, Your Child in Pictures by Me Ra Koh. This book is a follow up to Your Baby in Pictures, one of my favorite baby shower gifts around! As a quick fun side story, Me Ra's first book was actually how I met her! If you recall, just after Milo was born (9 days after he was born to be exact), Milo and I were "models" on the Seattle morning talk show, New Day to help her demonstrate one of the photo recipes found in the book! While I'm not sure what I was thinking going on tv shortly after giving birth, I'm so glad I was able to meet Me Ra!
October 1st (tomorrow!), Your Child in Pictures is available to purchase. I feel so lucky because I received an advanced copy! Since I get to see it first, I thought I'd share my thoughts and opinions on the book. As I'm sure you can guess from the title of this blog post, I think Me Ra has done it again, and created another must have photo tips book for moms. (I even caught Derek reading it!)
One of my favorite parts of the book is that she breaks down the book by age range, from 1-2 years, all the way up to 8-10 years. It makes is so easy to flip to the section of the book where your kids are and have great inspiration on how to capture your kids. The images are beautiful and well chosen to represent each stage in a child's life.
Now, let's be honest. With Pinterest around we feel like there's more than enough inspiration to go around. However, have you ever tried to recreate something you found on Pinterest? How many "Pinterest Fails" have you seen?! Me Ra's book goes way beyond just providing you with inspiration. Each photo recipe is just that, a RECIPE! It tells you when the best time to take the photo is, how to prepare, how to compose, and even what settings to use. If you don't know how to use your DSLR don't worry (sign up for my workshop and become a pro!) because the book includes how to use your point and shoot camera as well!
An unexpected surprise at the end of the book, are tips for capturing your special needs child. Me Ra helps mom who struggle to capture their special needs child with specific tips to set them up for success. I love how Me Ra doesn't forget anyone in her book.
To celebrate the release of her new book, I want to give a copy away! To be entered to win your very own copy of Me Ra's book leave a comment below sharing the story of a favorite photo from YOUR childhood! We need to get at least 15 comments before I will give the book away, so make sure you share this on Facebook! The winner will be selected and announced on Wednesday, October 2nd!
P.S. Today is the last day to receive 20% off of my workshop. Make sure you sign up today! It will be a day of finally breaking through the technical for you to use your camera with confidence!
