365 Project | Personal Photography Project for Growth

In the photography world, the 365 Project is a "popular" personal project many photographers take on for both the challenge and growth that can come from such a big project. The idea of a 365 Project has always seemed a little overwhelming to me. In fact, I never thought it was something that I would take on. I had many excuses like, I'm too busy, I have small kids, but the real reason was that I feared failing. How is that for honesty?! The perfectionist in me feared missing a day, or having an image that is less then perfect due to lack of creativity that day. Last year, however, I watched a friend and fellow photographer give glimpses of her 365 project. Her images of her children were real and beautiful, and I was inspired. I decided that it didn't matter if I missed a day here and there, or if an image wasn't perfect. It wasn't about what I would miss but what I would gain - images of my children regularly and the growth in my photography that only shooting daily could give me. And so, January 1st, 2016 I began my own 365 Project! If you'd like to follow along regularly, I will be sharing daily on Instagram. Otherwise, my hope is to share once a month here on the blog! Here are just a few from this month so far.

The Pout-Pout Fish | Friday Favorite

I'm always looking for good books to read to the kids. A friend recently suggested The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen. By the title alone I was like, hmm...don't I have enough pouting in my house? But I picked up the book and was immediately drawn in with the interesting illustrations, and nice tones of sea colors. However, it was the words the sold me. Pout-Pout Fish, children's book review, Friday FavoritesIt's a rhyming book, but they are REAL rhymes. Nothing feels forced. (The perfectionist in me hates when things don't actually rhyme.) And it has a fun little song/chant that the pout-pout fish says. Milo loves that at the end of each times the Pout-Pout Fish does his chant, he says "Blub, Bluuub, BLUUUUUUB." Pout-Pout Fish, children's book review, Friday FavoritesWhile I originally purchased this book with Hudson in mind, both Milo and Sawyer love it too. I even catch Milo reading it to Sawyer (at least the BLUB parts)! It is too sweet.Pout-Pout Fish, children's book review, Friday Favorites

And while I was researching the book, I found that there are a few other Pout-Pout Fish books; like The Not Very Merry Pout-Pout Fish, or The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School. I haven't read those ones yet, but I'm going to have to check them out. They might make great Christmas gifts for one of the kids!

My only warning is that you might be going around singing "I'm a pout-pout fish, with a pout-pout face..." but don't worry too much, it's all fun!

7 Month Old Baby Girl

I have a 7 month old baby girl! Wow. Okay, I will be honest, she's almost 8 months by the time I'm finally sharing these photos. But give me a break, I took the photos on time at least. It is the perfect time to have a baby who sits by herself. Look at how darling she is in the leaves! She might have tried to eat all of the leaves, but that's beside the point. She wasn't crawling yet which meant a good little model for me. 7 Months Old, Baby girl, Fall LeavesLet's not forget her monthly blanket photo. Again, I have yet to get her a plain white onesie (because I don't want a pack of 5 and I can't find just one!) so we are supporting our Huskies again. Love her smile and that round head of hers.7 Months old baby girl, Monthly photoWe took her to the pumpkin patch for the first time. Although she napped most of the time, she woke up just in time to sit with a few pumpkins! I love her curiosity as she discovers things. Of course, usually she puts it in her mouth moments later.7 Month old baby girl, pumpkin patch, baby and pumpkinShe also started crawling. Kind of. She took a few movements forward. But up to this point she would get into this position. Milo was so excited the first time he saw it. He yells "mama, she's making a bridge!"7 month old baby girl, trying to crawlWe've also started eating more foods, including puffs. No teeth, but she can do a number on puffs. They are a nice way to keep her occupied while I prepare lunch for the rest of the crew!7 month old baby girl

Lots has happened since these photos, I will try to be better and share 8 months closer to when she actually turns 8 months.

Happy Halloween from the Lees

Happy Halloween from the Lees!

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween today. Here's a peek at the Lee kids in costume. I took these as a demonstration for the Halloween Photography Event earlier this week. I'm so glad I did as it was sunny and we weren't rushed trying to take photos before going trick-or-treating.

Of course we have a Disney theme with Mickey and TWO Minnies!

Happy Halloween, Themed Costumes, Disney, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, SiblingsMilo was a little disturbed that his costume doesn't have a tail since Mickey has one. I'm not really sure why, buddy! But he still looks so so cute! And of course, Sawyer loves her Minnie costume. Minus the black pants underneath. I might have had to bribe her with a bite of ice cream to get her to wear the black pants (she only wears pink or purple). Happy Halloween, Themed Costumes, Disney, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, SiblingsI will have to take a few more photos of Hudson in her costume. She was so adorable, but on the brink of being sick and she skipped a nap, so she wasn't super excited about the whole process. Though she did manage to swipe up some dirt.

But don't you just love these next two photos?! Milo sure adores his baby sister. He can't help but give her hugs and squeezes. Happy Halloween, Themed Costumes, Disney, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, SiblingsProbably my favorite one from the bunch. He LOVES her!Happy Halloween, Themed Costumes, Disney, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Siblings

We are off to do a little trick-or-treating (depending on this weather). Either way, Happy Halloween from the Lees!
